CATS ALSO HAVE HOCKEY THIS WEEKEND
Even though only the Gander Flyers and Clarenville Caribous officially play hockey this weekend - to open the 2017-2018 CWSHL Season - the other team in the League, the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts will be playing hockey too.
The Cataracts hold two team practices in St.John's on Friday night and Saturday in preparation for the upcoming season. About half the Cats players live in the St.John's area and most of the remaining players on this year's roster will be travelling into the city for the on-ice sessions. It is anticipated that the new Head Coach,(and second Goalie, who will be joining Jason Stone from last year's team), will be confirmed before the team's first practice tomorrow night...
The "home rink" for the Cats is not available for awhile yet, notice being given from GFW Town officials last month that the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor would not have ice 'down' until the week of November 13th.
The Home Opener for the Cataracts will be on Saturday,November 18th when the ECSHL Southern Shore Breakers visit GFW. On Sunday afternoon,Nov.19th the Conception Bay Blues will play at the "Joe".( The Cats first game of the season is "on the road" on November 11th and 12th in Clarenville against the Bous).
