HERDER FINAL TIED AT A GAME APIECE
After playing a late night overtime game 7 at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in GFW on Friday,March 24th, the Caribous - who emerged from the contest with a Fianls 4-3 victory - were able to muster just enough effort and skill to pull off an Opening Game 4-2 win to start this year's Herder Championship in Harbour Grace on Saturday night, March 25th.
However, the second game of the Herder ,also played in Harbour Grace the following afternoon,Sunday,March 26th, did not end with a Bous victory as the game the night before. With some late extra effort and good bounces in favour of the CeeBees as the third period neared a close - with the Bous hanging on to a 'one nothing' lead - the AESHL Champion CeeBees pulled out an unexpected 2-1 win late.
The Series now switches to Clarenville Eastlink Events Center for the remaining games of the three out of five Series. The Finals finish is expected to be a hard-fought affair, with the AESHL representative CeeBees no doubt invigorated by attaining the first ever win by an AESHL team over a CWSHL Champion in the 'revamped' HNL Herder "East vs. West" Finals foremat.
The CWSHL 2017 Champion Caribous will definitely be ready for the next game on Friday, March 31st to ably represent the Central West League in defending the League's straight games Series victory in last year's Herder Championship won by the 2016 CWSHL Champion Cataracts.
Getting back on the ice after a much-needed week's rest is expected to do a world good for the Caribous being able to re-up their usual attacking tempo so effective in getting to the Herder this year... The Bous looked a little fatigued and pressed during the first two games of the Finals this past weekend.
