Marc Cheverie was quite busy in the Flyers net facing 51 shots in the game while the Caribous countered with Tyler Whiffen who faced 29 shots.
The Flyers go for a split in the series when they face the Caribous on Saturday Night. Game time is 7:30 at the Steele Community Center.
After retiring Flyers legend Ed Philpott’s jersey in front of 1050 fans on Saturday night, the Kelly Ford Gander Flyers had the home town fans in a victorious mood jumping out to a 3-0 first period lead. Unfortunately, the Flyers were not able to hold onto the lead eventually losing 8-5 to the Clarenville Caribous. Kenny Mahoney scored just 1 minute into the 2nd period to let the Flyers faithful know they were not going down easily. Just 1 minute later, Jordan Escott restored the 3 goal lead for the Flyers. It appeared that the Flyers might not let this one slip away. Keith Delaney, Chad Earle, Kenny Mahoney and Ryan Desrosiers had the Flyers realing with 4 straight goals to give the Caribous a 5-4 lead BEFORE the 2nd period had ended. Tyler Carroll, the Flyers season MVP, appeared to stem the tide and send the teams to the 2nd period intermission tied 5-5.
Unfortunately for the Flyers, the intermission did nothing to slow down the Bous. Ryan Desrosiers and Stuart McRae (2 goals) finished off the Flyers and ended their season with a 8-5 victory.
Jordan Escott lead the Flyers with a 3 point effort. Ryan Watson, Andrew Ryan and Brandon Hynes chipped in with 2 point efforts. Marc Cheverie faced another ton of rubber in the Flyers net, facing 56 shots. That is 2 nights in a row that the Flyers gave up over 50 shots!!

Mitch Oake was presented with the Terry Oake “Heart and Soul” award. Finally, Jordan Escott was presented with the Central West Senior Hockey League’s Most Gentleman and Effective Player Award.
One of the Highlights of the Night was in the 2nd Period Intermission when Gord Crocker was the Lucky Fan who took the shot to win a 2017 Ford Mustang and Man ole Man did he ever come close.
The Flyers would like to thank the 1050 fans and volunteers who came out Saturday Night to make the evening the success it was. We only wish the final outcome was a little different.
